What’s New

Happy Holidays from Phalanx Biotech. We would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Please note we will be closing our offices December 22 through January 1 for the holiday break.

Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Oklahoma State University Microarray Core Facility Launch OneArray Express Partnerships. On December 5th, with the help of Dr. Winston Kuo, Director of the Laboratory for Innovative Transitional Technologies, Phalanx Biotech recently kicked off a new OneArray Express Partnership with the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. The event included talks from representatives of Phalanx Biotech, Molecular Devices®, and BioMicro®, as well as a hands-on workshop demonstrating the use of OneArray. Phalanx Biotech Group has also agreed to a partnership with Dr. Peter Hoyt, Director of the Oklahoma State University Microarray Core Facility. Researchers at Harvard and Oklahoma State now have convenient access to Human and Mouse OneArray on their own campus while getting the bulk price of $79 per array with no additional shipping charges. If you or your institution are also interested in becoming a OneArray Express Partner or are interested in purchasing from our OneArray Express Partners, contact us at spot@phalanxbiotech.com.

Ask Spot:

How do I tune my Axon GenePix® scanner for Cy3 and Cy5 dual dye experiments? (For end users)

Spot says: The scanner can be tuned “on-the-fly” during the Preview scan by monitoring the histogram and increasing or decreasing the PMT of either channel so the histograms match closely. Axon scanners are typically optimized for a PMT setting of 600V; tuning should be done to get nearer this value if possible. Good starting values for the PMT setting are 630V for the Cy5 (635nm) channel and 590V (532nm) for the Cy3 channel. Similar tuning can be performed using other fluorophores other than Cy3 and Cy5. NOTE: these scanner settings are incorrect in earlier versions of the OneArray User Guide; please make the necessary changes or download the latest version by visiting our Support page on our website.

Does Phalanx Biotech offer analysis of my gene expression data? (For service users)

Spot says: The Phalanx Biotech service team will work with you from start to finish ensuring you have all the information you want from your gene expression data. Contact us today to see a sample service report and to get your project started.

Where can I get modified .gal files that include gene symbol information? (For end users)

Spot says: I have prepared HOA4.3 and MOA1.1 gal files that include gene symbols in addition to the PhalanxBio probe ID. This enables you to see the genes symbols as you look at your scanned image in GenePix. Email spot@phalanxbiotech.com. Thank you to the University of Nebraska Medical Center Microarray Core Facility and Dr. Carol Ching of Cornell University for their advice in generating these files.
